OUR STORY
The journey of the CAHTC (Canada Anti-Human Trafficking Consortium) began in 2019 when our Founder - Jinisha Bhatt began collaborating with a survivor leader - Timea Nagy to deliver Human Trafficking Detection training to Financial Institutions. This is where CAHTC’s core team of volunteers met and planted the seeds of our proactive detection methodology. Jinisha then teamed up with several survivor-led organizations and law enforcement agencies to implement an intel-gathering and sharing framework. This work led to the identification and extraction of over 80 victims of human trafficking during Super Bowl LVII, Super Bowl LVIII and Toronto International Film Festival.
Five years later, CAHTC was formed in June 2024 with a focus on implementing our proactive detection framework in Canada. CAHTC was conceived out of sheer optimism and a shared fixation on achieving tangible results in Canada. Human Trafficking is often described as a complex and sophisticated problem. While human trafficking is a multifaceted crime, some narratives adopted by the greater society perpetuate logical fallacies that justify inaction and an utter lack of cooperation.
Current victim identification and prosecution rates are estimated to be less than 1%
